The Art of the Concerto - Reno Phil ~ 3-14-2010 The Art of the Concerto - Reno Phil ~ The Art of the Concerto
Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, Laura Jackson, conducting
Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts
March 14 & 16, 2010
Sunday 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Johannes Sebastian Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 3
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 22, featuring Conrad Tao, piano
Béla Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra
Tickets: Renophil.com, 775-323-6393

The March concert is set to highlight the orchestra’s instruments, using music from varied periods in classical music. To begin, the orchestra will pare down, to a small ensemble, to perform the baroque style Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. Moving to the classical era, the RPO will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 22 with the help of Davidson Institute Fellow Laureate, Conrad Tao. American pianist Conrad Tao showed an interest in music at a very early age, when he was found playing children’s songs on the piano at about 18 months of age. Born in Urbana, Illinois, he started violin lessons at age three, formal piano lessons at three-and-a-half, gave his first public piano recital at age four. He performed a recital at the World Piano Pedagogy Conference in Orlando, Florida at age seven. At age eight, he made his concerto debut with the Utah Chamber Music Festival. He has been featured on the NPR program “From the Top,” PBS’s “From the Top - Live from Carnegie Hall,” and on NPR’s “Performance Today”. Conrad is the winner of Juilliard Pre-College’s Piano Competition and the Prokofiev Concerto Competition in 2006. In 2008, Conrad was named a Davidson Fellow Laureate by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development, located in Reno, Nevada. Finishing the timeline of music, the orchestra will feature each of the groups of instruments in the modern composition, Bartók’s Concerto for orchestra. The piece is exciting and thrilling.
Prices start at $28 with discounts available to seniors. Students with valid student ID can come early for “rush” seating ½ hour before performance for $8.00. Patrons can join the Music Director Laura Jackson one-half hour prior to each performance for “A Preview from the Podium.” For more information or tickets log onto www.RenoPhil.com, or call the Reno Phil boxoffice (775) 323-6393.
